It's Not What You Know...

"Wow! I never realised landscape architecture was so cool!"

"Oh FFS, sit down and let me tell you all about it..."

Dr Chris Brown, yes, Mr Bondi Vet himself, recently had the pleasure of speaking at the same conference as Yours Truly.

Parks & Leisure Australia invited me to present at their West Australia state conference in Fremantle. The conference theme was Resilient Communities, and I spoke about the benefits of parks, how different cities and communities have realised these benefits, and how they've been measured.

I concluded by wading into deeper water, inviting the audience to consider the opposite viewpoint: what if we got off the hamster wheel of justification and valued our parks and landscapes “just because”?

Chris Brown spoke in his role as ambassor for the newly-launched Keep Australia Pet Friendly campaign. Just as there is a growing body of evidence supporting the benefits of parks, so to are there demonstrated benefits to pet ownership. In Australia however, pet ownership is declining, and our accommodation, transport and public spaces can exclude pets and their owners.
